Conservation Measures

In 1976 and 1991 the instable slope at the western abutment Pusserein required structural measures  new supports and later floating bearings  to be carried out. In 1997/98, the Salginatobel Bridge was comprehensively repaired and restored. The heavily damaged parapets had to be completely replaced and the deck received a special waterproofing. The entire surface of the arch slab as well as the side walls and cross walls were freed of the damaged patches using ultra-high pressure water jets and were lined with a thin layer of spray mortar. The subsequent reconstruction of the formwork pattern  aided by photographic documentation  proved to be very demanding. The total expenditure of the restauration amounted to two million Swiss Francs.
